In March 24 I had spinal decompression for lumbar spinal stenosis which was causing me sciatic pain in both legs.At 93 I was not sure if an operation was possible but as a retired GP knew that there could be complications if nothing was done.Luckily I have no heart or chest problems and as I was reassured that my pain could be cured decided on the op. This I am delighted to say has been a miraculous success ,I am able to stand up straight without pain ,reach up into cupboards I had not been able to reach ,and turn over and get out of bed with no pain. I found Dr K very helpful and supportive explaining how he could relieve my pain and improve my way of life.He is a remarkably friendly helpful surgeon and I feel I was looked after extremely well. Today I was discharged from his clinic and my thanks go not only to a very gifted surgeon but to the amazing team who work with him.

Nine years ago, I was diagnosed with my primary tumour, a right frontal lobe meningioma, which was the size of a large orange – it was at that time that I was put under the care of Mr Kaliaperumal and he has remained my lead consultant ever since. Over the year’s I have been fortunate enough to be in his care, as I have faced many health challenges, but he has remained with me and my family every step of the way and literally saved my life on multiple occasions. Mr Kaliaperumal is not only a gifted Neurosurgeon, but he is one of the most humble, compassionate and inspirational people I have ever had the good fortune of meeting. Due to the nature of my tumour, over the years I have had five craniotomies, two rounds of radiotherapy and one round of immunotherapy – During every treatment, Mr Kaliaperumal went above and beyond in providing care, support, motivation and outlining a treatment plan – to me, he’s not just a surgeon, he’s a superhero, who has lifted me during my lowest times. During each consultation, follow up appointment or catch up, he has taken the time to put me and my family at ease, he is passionate about his work and takes the time to explain things in layman’s terms. He will always find time to meet, have a chat and put you at ease, he can’t do enough for you or your family. I simply don’t have the words to express my gratitude for what he has done for me and my family over the years… and although our meeting was under unfortunate circumstances, I am beyond grateful that he has been my Neurosurgeon and provided me with the best support and treatment over this nine-year journey. If life has thrown you a curveball regarding your health and the journey brings you to Mr Kaliaperumal, know that you are in the safest of hands.

I met Mr Kaliaperumal a year ago and I was diagnosed with a brain tumour. He discussed everything clearly to me so I understood. I was admitted to hospital within the week and I had my operation and I had every confidence and faith in Mr Kaliaperumal, unfortunately I had a stroke whilst in the recovery room but I have received first class attention from Mr K and everyone at the Royal. I received many phone calls and have had annual appointments.

I was taken to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary on 2 April 2023 after an accident at home which resulted in a traumatic brain injury. Mr Kaliaperumal treated me with an emergency left sided craniotomy, which I am certain saved my life. I shall be forever grateful for his expertise. I saw him regularly during my post operative recovery, and again on 27 February 2024 when I was discharged from the clinic. I always found him to be both empathetic and generous with his time and knowledge.

Dr. Kaliaperumal was my daughter's neurosurgeon and he was phenomenal! He helped support my family through my 1-year-old daughter's skull surgery. Even after we left Scotland, he kept in touch and wanted to check in on Rosie. I was a nervous wreck throughout the process and asked a lot of questions. Dr. Kaliaperumal took the time to address all my fears and concerns in a very patient manner, leaving me with a sense of calm about the entire thing, which was quite a feat. On the day of surgery, we felt secure knowing that Dr. Kaliaperumal was in charge. His kindness and warmth are something we always remember about that experience and we cannot thank him enough for what he has done for my daughter and for all of us.
